Rebooting the blog
Hello again, Internet! Giorgio here, after a near six-year break from blogging. A lot has happened in that time:
- In my role as a software engineer, I took on a number of interns and new-hires and had the privilege of mentoring them
- Together, we shipped countless features and brand-new products as part of Datto's Portal team
- A horrifying pandemic swept the planet and forced us all into remote work
- Datto IPO'd and was subsequently purchased by a competitor.
- I began investing as a hobby and called the whole GameStop event before it happened.
- No, I wasn't crazy/smart enough to chase it up to the incredible pre-market price of 500 dollars per share. At least it's a fun story to tell.
- I succumbed to the pressure of the blistering performance of Apple Silicon products and joined the cult of mac.
- I've found love, lost it, and am a bit wiser for it.
- I've made a lot of friends along the way (and a few rivals!), and intend to make this year the best one yet.
It's been a wild ride for sure, but I've taken this opportunity to revisit my interest in exploring technology. No longer is the blog powered by spress. As much as I enjoyed using that symfony and twig-based tool, it wound up being a little too much effort to generate content with for something as free-form as this website is intended to be.
Instead, I dove deep into the world of alternatives while keeping within the spirit of static site generation. Ultimately, I landed on one from the hacker news community: md2blog. It's a little bare-bones, but that's exactly what I find so appealing about it!
With a bit of luck, this won't be the last post for another six years. Thanks for tuning in.
- Giorgio
